The Perceptive Mind

The perceptive mind is what's needed to study an illness. This is a state of mind, a mode of mind perhaps, that's completely different from the thinking, analytical, brain which is what most use. One isn't better than the other, but both need to be used and developed. At the moment its seems the thinking brain is used exclusively, producing good, but limited results.

The thinking brain approaches a problem, for instance illness, from a point of view based on knowledge. Observation of the illness is interpreted according to acquired knowledge and experience then analysed and thought about. From all this a plan is formulated to deal with the problem through a technique. This always involves an operator who needs to apply the technique and it all works quite well producing society as we know it.

So what about the perceptive mind - what is it? To get this the thinking brain must stop, it has to go quiet and stop working for a while - it can come back later when its needed to put the understanding that the perceptive mind has gained into effect. So its not brain its mind and the capacity within the mind to see clearly, or perceive, at many levels. With the brain quiet and still the mind just looks and in looking information passes into the mind. The mind during this is in a kind of meditative state, simply accepting the information that the problem - its book or story - gives off. That story will play out in the mind revealing much about the illness, and here's the important bit, the mind mustn't judge or compare what it sees to previous knowledge or memory because that will just activate the brain bringing all that back in. The mind meeds to be empty, no point of view, nothing, in order to see or perceive clearly.

Then over a period of weeks or even months the information or book that's been taken in will tell its story and in the telling the understanding of what needs to be done will come. Its a slow, arduous process to start, not many want to do it being happy with what works for them, but if you want creative, real answers, this state of mind's essential.

Once the understandings been gained then the brain can come back to deal with real world problems, which is what its for.
